About
Drawing Matter explores the role of drawing in architectural thought and practice, through publications, exhibitions, and workshops for students and practitioners. Central to our activities is the Drawing Matter Collection of many thousands of architectural and design drawings from across the world, dating from the Renaissance to the present day.
Our website is a fast-growing repository of new and historical writings on drawing, currently containing 1200 texts (with at least two added each week) and visited by 650 readers a day. Many of the texts address material in the Drawing Matter Collection, while others examine drawings and objects archived elsewhere and made by practitioners working today. If you are interested in contributing a text, please contact the editors.
In October 2024, Drawing Matter moved its activities and collection from Shatwell Farm to Smart’s Place, Central London. We continue to encourage visitors to come by appointment, and to examine the drawings in person.
